COVID-19 Updated Information

Before we get started with the logistics of all things happening right now, what you really need to understand is that we’re going to be okay. We’ve got incredible teachers, great kids, and unbelievable parents that are going to take care of each other and now is a time to show other people how well #twolvesterritory can come together and take care of each other. This process is a marathon, not a sprint. Plans will continue to evolve as more information is known.

The administration of Southwest Valley will continue to meet weekly to reevaluate plans and protocols. It is also important to stay home at this time and not congregate at school playgrounds, friends’ homes, or other common public places.

Update July 30, 2020: Southwest Valley Schools Return to Learn Manual. Click Here.

All Southwest Valley campuses are closed until further notice.  Only designated staff will be allowed in the buildings.

Hot lunch will be served to students this week and available for curbside pickup. To order hot lunch, you can call or text 641-418-0952 or email lunch@southwestvalley.org. Pickup will begin Tuesday, March 17th from 11:00-12:00. Curbside pickup will be located at the main entrance of Corning Elementary or Southwest Valley Middle School. You must order by 8am. Please include the names of students who you will be picking up meals for and your preferred pickup location. This will be a free program for all Southwest Valley students 18 years and younger.

Childcare

You may have heard Governor Reynolds make a call to action yesterday regarding child care across the state for the essential workforce. We have met this morning to discuss the risk and benefits of having our ECEC open. We will continue to assess the needs and demand of our community’s essential service personnel, but as of right now, our ECEC will remain closed. This will continue to be assessed on a weekly basis as all of our decisions have been regarding the COVID-19 situation.

Wellness Center

The Southwest Valley Wellness Center will be closed in Villisca until further notice. Key cards will not work for this building until it is reopened.  Membership will be extended upon reopening.

Spring Activities

All Iowa High School Athletic Association activities for spring have been suspended. This includes speech, music, track, golf, and tennis events.

Prom & Graduation

I know this is a very hot topic for our students, parents, and community. There are so many thoughts and feelings that go along with such big events for our high school seniors to conclude their high school experience. To have uncertainty around these events is heartbreaking and frustrating for everyone. At this time, we do not plan to cancel any of these events; however, we do know prom will not be held on April 18th. We cannot give you another date as we are continuing to evaluate and assess week by week.

Graduation: No decision can be made at this time regarding graduation. Please know that we appreciate your concern and we understand the uncertainty can be frustrating. We are in this together and know that will keep our communication open to our Southwest Valley Community regarding these big events!

Recommended Learning Resources
